Horse Riding Holidays for Intermediate Plus Riders
We consider riders to be Intermediate Plus if you have been riding for many years and are well balanced and confident in the saddle. You are comfortable controlling a sensible but fit and responsive horse at all paces, both in the arena and outdoors, and are riding fit enough to spend several hours in the saddle.
Intermediate Plus riders are ready to take their riding adventure to the next level. You can comfortably ride across varied terrain, maintain your balance when things get a little more challenging and adapt your riding to different horses and situations. You are also confident riding independently in open spaces and at faster paces when the opportunity arises.
This level opens up a much wider range of horse riding holidays, including longer trail rides, wilderness adventures, mountain rides and expedition-style journeys. It is also a great level for riders looking for more sporty riding holidays, such as cross country, jumping and dressage, where a good level of balance, control and riding experience is important. Many of these holidays involve several hours in the saddle or more technical riding, so a good level of riding fitness is essential. You should be comfortable posting to the trot for extended periods, riding in a balanced two-point position and maintaining control of your horse across changing terrain.
Remember that riding in a new environment can be very different from what you are used to at home. You may encounter steep sections, rocky or uneven ground, water crossings, low branches and other natural obstacles. The ability to stay balanced, relaxed and in control while adapting to the terrain is an important part of enjoying these more adventurous rides.
As with every riding level, it is important to be realistic about your current ability. If you have not ridden regularly recently, you may need to choose a less demanding ride, even if you have previously been a very experienced rider. With the right level of fitness and experience, Intermediate Plus riders can enjoy some of the world’s most exciting riding adventures, explore spectacular landscapes and really make the most of their time in the saddle.
